Surrey Local Immigration Partnership to host open house for newcomers

The Surrey Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) will host its annual Newcomer Open House, dedicated to helping newcomers integrate smoothly into the Surrey community by connecting them with essential resources and services.
The Newcomer Open House will take place on September 11, 2024, at the Surrey Civic Plaza from 12 pm to 4 pm. The event will feature various local agencies offering information and resources on employment services, English language training, housing support and more. Organisers say that it’s a great opportunity for newcomers to meet with service providers and learn about the wide range of support available to help them settle into their new lives in Surrey. “This event embodies our commitment to ensuring a seamless integration experience for newcomers,” said Lenya Wilks, Director of Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement at Surrey LIP. “We are excited to facilitate connections between newcomers and the numerous services provided by settlement agencies, laying a strong foundation for their journey ahead.”
The event is also a great opportunity to exchange notes with fellow newcomers in the area with shared life experiences and build a social network.
Mayor Brenda Locke expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are thrilled to bring together community partners and newcomers for the Surrey LIP Open House. Our diversity is one of our greatest assets, and Surrey takes great pride in welcoming all people. Newcomers who make Surrey their home bring much-needed skills and talents to our city. This special event is an opportunity to learn more about services and programs that will help you and your families as you settle into your new life.”
Mayor Locke will be reading a proclamation declaring September 13-22, 2024, as “Welcoming Week” in the City of Surrey. This week-long celebration will highlight the importance of inclusivity and the positive impact that newcomers have on the community.
