3 alleged NPA rebels slain in Batangas clashes

LUCENA CITY — Three alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in encounters Sunday with Army soldiers in Tuy town in Batangas province.

The Region 4A police reported on Monday, June 24, that troops from the Army’s 59th Infantry Battalion engaged NPA rebels in an encounter at 6:30 a.m. in Barangay Acle.

Soldiers recovered the bodies of the guerrillas after the encounter, the report said.

The government troops also recovered three rifles – R4, Uzi, and M17 – left behind by fleeing rebels, the report added.

During the hot pursuit operation, the body of another male Red-fighter was found around 11 a.m. at the second site of the encounter in Barangay Bolbok

No casualty was reported on the government side.

The authorities were coordinating with the local government to reach out to the families of the dead rebels.
