Tropical Depression Aghon slightly intensifies; 18 areas under Signal no. 1

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Aghon slightly strengthened as the number of areas under Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 1 rose to 18 on Friday afternoon.

Based on its latest advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Aghon was last spotted 135 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Gaining both speed and strength, Aghon is currently moving west-northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph), with maximum sustained winds now at 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

“Aghon is forecast to move generally west-northwestward from today (Friday) until tomorrow (Saturday) while slowly intensifying,” Pagasa said.

“[It] is forecast to make a close approach or make landfall in the vicinity of Eastern Visayas tomorrow (Saturday) morning,” it added.

Due to the effects of Aghon, Pagasa hoisted Signal No. 1 over the following areas:

Luzon

  • Sorsogon
  • Albay
  • Catanduanes
  • Camarines Sur
  • Camarines Norte (San Vicente, San Lorenzo Ruiz, Basud, Daet, Talisay, Mercedes)
  • Masbate including Ticao Island and Burias Island

Visayas

  • Eastern Samar
  • Samar
  • Northern Samar
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Biliran
  • Camotes Islands

Mindanao

  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte, including Siargao – Bucas Grande Group
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Agusan del Sur (Sibagat, City of Bayugan, Prosperidad, San Francisco, Rosario, Bunawan, Trento)
  • Agusan del Norte
