Go bats for better health care
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go stressed the need for better health care after a recent OCTA Research survey showed that health is the Filipinos’ top concern.
The OCTA’s Tugon ng Masa, conducted from Dec. 10 to 14, showed that 71 percent of respondents wanted to stay healthy and avoid illness.
As chairman of the Senate committee on health and demography, Go said that health is wealth.
“Our people’s health cannot take a backseat. This is not just about combating diseases but a holistic approach to ensuring every Filipino has access to medical services, adequate nutrition and a healthy environment,” he said.
Go said the survey also showed that 50 percent of respondents stressed the importance of having enough to eat daily.
“Food security and health are related challenges that we need to address,” he said.
Go said he will push for the creation of health centers and for an increase in pay of barangay health workers.
The senator also filed a bill seeking to create the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines, in order to prepare the country for future pandemics.
