CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Fire of still unknown origin gutted the second floor of a chapel of the Our Lady of Holy Rosario Parish, also called “Pisamban Maragul,” in Angeles City Sunday afternoon (Dec. 10).

The fire, which hit at around 3 p.m., burned
the second floor that was used as a music room of the Blessed Sacrament chapel, according parish priest Fr. Nolasco Fernandez.

The area was renovated sometime in 2015 when now Diocese of Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David was the church’s parish priest, Nolasco said in an interview.

Three firetrucks were able to put out the fire at around 4 p.m. The adjacent sacristy and church, which have undergone restoration since the magnitude 6.1 earthquake in April 2019 damaged it, were untouched by the flames.

The church has been named by the government as a “structure of national importance,” having been the site of the first anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence from Spain, a marker showed.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, Fernandez said.

Bureau of Fire Prevention personnel were at the site to begin investigation, he added.
