Warmer weekend as habagat weakens; northern Luzon rainy
MANILA, Philippines — A relatively warm weekend is expected as the southwest monsoon or habagat has slightly weakened and would only affect Northern Luzon, the state weather bureau said.
Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Friday afternoon showed that thin cloud bands surround the country, with the habagat concentrated on the northern parts of the country. However, isolated rains and thunderstorms may still occur.
But generally, the weather would be warmer due to the weakened habagat: for Saturday, Pagasa expects temperatures in Metro Manila to play around 24 to 34 degrees Celsius, 25 to 34 degrees in Tuguegarao, 25 to 32 degrees in Laoag and Puerto Princesa, and 25 to 33 degrees in Legazpi.
Usually-cold tourist attractions like Baguio and Tagaytay would have warmer daytime as temperatures may hover between 17 to 23 degrees Celsius and 22 to 32 degrees, respectively.
For Visayas and Mindanao, warm and fair days are also expected, although isolated rains may still occur. Temperatures over Cebu and Iloilo would go around 25 to 33 degrees Celsius, Tacloban and Cagayan de Oro with 25 to 32 degrees, Zamboanga with a warm 24 to 34 degrees, and Davao with 24 to 33 degrees.
Pagasa said that no weather disturbances like low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the next three to five days.
Similarly, no gale warning has been raised in any part of the country, which means small boat operators and fisherfolk can travel over the country’s waters.
