Nava clan dominates Guimaras elections

ILOILO CITY – The Nava clan in Guimaras dominated the elections after securing different elective posts in the province.

Joaquin Carlos Rahman Nava won as Guimaras governor after getting 92, 570 votes against his rival Jose Ramon Cacho who got 3, 262 votes.

Joaquin Carlos will replace Gov. Samuel Gumarin who ran and won as mayor in Buenavista town.

Joaquin Carlos’s brother, Felipe “Nene” Nava, also got the top spot among the provincial board members in the second district of Guimaras.

The victory of the two brothers ended their political rift that started prior to the 2013 elections when then incumbent governor Felipe lost his reelection bid to now Governor Samuel Gumarin who was supported by then congressman Joaquin Carlos.

Joaquin Carlos’s wife, Congresswoman Lucille Nava, was also re-elected as representative of the lone district of Guimaras.
