Driver hurt after car falls off ravine in Mountain Province

ROXAS, Isabela — A pick-up truck fell off a 50-meter ravine, injuring its lone passenger, in Bontoc town in Mountain Province on Easter Sunday, April 17.

The Bontoc Disaster and Risk-Reduction Management Office said Clarence Amogan Caballero, 35, of La Trinidad, Benguet, was driving his Ford Ranger pick-up at Sitio (sub-village) At-ato in Barangay (village) Bontoc Ili at about 3 a.m. when he lost control of the steering wheel while maneuvering to overtake a van.

Police said Caballero came from his house in La Trinidad and was on his way to Barlig, also in Mountain Province.

The vehicle then slammed onto the guard rails and fell off the ravine.

Caballero was rescued by police, disaster risk-reduction management office workers, fire protection workers and volunteers.

He is now recuperating at the Bontoc General Hospital due to multiple fractures and wounds.
