Over the next 15 years, the Province of Ontario is projected to face a shortage of about 100,000 skilled trade workers due to an aging population. For that reason, the province is investing in the promotion of skilled trades for newcomers and youth. Throughout the pandemic, we have seen a significant growth in Cyber Security, Network Cabling and HVAC with a projected increase in demand in the coming years. These statistics are a clear indication of the need for talented newcomers to join the workforce.
This is where the Ontario Bridge Training Program comes in! The Career Foundation is proud to be a service delivery agent of this program to give you a second chance at your first career choice!
The Ontario Bridge Training Program (OBTP) is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development to help internationally trained immigrants integrate into the Canadian workforce.
The Career Foundation, a not-for-profit organization serving job seekers and employers, is the service delivery agent for three sector-specific bridge training programs:
– Foundations in Network Cabling
– Foundations in Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning (HVAC)
– Foundations in IT
All three sectors are in-demand and are projected to grow due to current labour market trends, an aging population and growing infrastructure. The bridge training programs will run from 2022- 2025.
Participants of the program receive structured training for 11 to 12 weeks, after which they are awarded industry-recognized certificates that enable them to enter the workforce. Training involves understanding Canadian workplace practices and communications, job search strategies and career growth, as well as theoretical and practical training from an accredited training provider. While the training takes place, participants will also receive one-on-one support on their job search endeavours. Upon completion, participants will be matched to industry employers, leading to a full-time job in the sector they are trained in.
Sign up for the upcoming cohort! Please visit us at The Career Foundation and register today! Spaces are limited.
