Experiencing burnout at work? You may not be alone.  Burnout can happen to any of us as a result of workload, work environment, energy drain or more. Learning how to avoid burnout is important for everyone in today’s hectic world. Other behaviours and habits that can lead to burnout include staying up long nights working on projects, taking on extra work and work-life imbalance. This can also lead to decreasing connections with your family members and friends outside of work.

So how do you find motivation when you’re experiencing burnout? Here are a few ways to get back your mojo and make life productive and fun.

Remember your passion

If you really think about it, you need to remind yourself of your “why” at all times. Knowing your passion is your compass, your true north. Whenever you’re feeling lost or uninspired, remember the passion that ignited you in the first place. It will give you that sense of purpose and the motivation to rise, even when you feel like you have nothing left.

Accept help from friends

Sometimes showing your vulnerable side could be the ultimate show of strength. You may be the hero of your epic but remember, you’re also human. If you are feeling burnt out, it’s important to ask for help. As a first step, seek out friends who can help you to find your way back. This can help you get back on your feet and go after your goals with vigour.

Eliminate distractions

Sometimes, saying no to distractions may require making a huge life change, but other times, it can be fixed with simple steps like shutting down your computer, going on a phone detox and giving yourself some downtime. Also, before coming to work, make sure you are well-rested and have locked out distractions that drain your energy levels.

Focus on the future

If you’re feeling burnt out, however desperate the situation, you should focus your time on forward-moving thoughts. Initiate a high level of awareness. Eliminating negative thinking can be the first step in awareness. Keep at it till the time you bring positive thoughts to the forefront of your thinking. To make it work, practice gratitude at all times. Increasing a sense of gratitude can be a major contributor in determining overall well-being and optimism.

Do fulfilling work

The modern workplace is known for being a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Feeling like you’re part of the team can really help increase your level of fulfillment. When you know that your contributions matter, everything changes. You can also develop a routine to relax and practice deep breathing. Stress management is key and self-care is important. Remember, life is a marathon and not a sprint.

Rethink your priorities and set small goals

Take action on your priorities every day. If your priorities include keeping a clean living area or finishing a new book once a week, stick to your plans. You will find that your mood is improving, and you are not as drained as you once were. And all because you are now doing things in alignment with your goals and priorities.

If you don’t watch out, feeling burnt out can slowly creep up on you. It can be a result of personal behaviours, habits, or unbearable work environments. Regardless, awareness is the first step of knowing what is happening. The next step is to take specific action based on the signs you are displaying. Remember, your comeback can be stronger than the setback.
