New Order and the Pet Shop Boys are two of the most influential UK bands of the 1980s still topping charts today. The two groups co-headline the Unity Tour this Fall with dates across North America.
The 11-concert tour kicks off on Sept. 5 in Toronto, and winds down at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 2. The tour comes to Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Sept. 24.
Pet Shop Boys dropped their 14th album last year. Hotspot hit number-one on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. This marked the fourth time the duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe has landed an album on the top spot, which goes a long way to explaining the three-time Brit Award-winners’ $50 million in global sales since forming in 1981. Besides the Unity Tour, the Pet Shop Boys are embarking on a greatest hits tour of Europe and the UK in May.
No word on what kind of setlist the Pet Shop Boys plan to play on this coming tour, but you just know that they will fit West End Girls into the mix.
Hot off the critically acclaimed live album and documentary around their concept concerts with with designer Liam Gillick, New Order is entering the 2020s at the top of its game. The reinvigorated sound the band displayed on 2015’s excellent Music Complete, and its companion remix release, appears to have lit up the band’s live performances as well — with New Order touring regularly to packed houses.
The band’s status as key purveyors of post-punk dance/rock continues to grown each year. When you write a single as groundbreaking as Blue Monday, that’s what happens.
