THE Senate Committee on Public Services began on Monday the public hearings on the alleged violations committed by ABS-CBN broadcast network concerning its franchise.
The panel, headed by Sen. Mary Grace Poe, insisted that the Senate inquiry is not unconstitutional contrary to the position of House of Representatives Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.
Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon reiterated the need to resolve the ABS-CBN franchise issue because there are only seven session days left before Congress adjourns on March 11.
The corporation’s 25-year franchise is set to expire on March 30, 2020.
ABS-CBN’s top executives were present to clarify the issues raised against the corporation by the Solicitor General namely Carlo Katigbak, president and chief executive officer; Martin Lopez, chairman; and Ma. Socorro Vidanes, chief operating officer. Bernadette E. Tamayo
