At least 1,876 people mostly students, professionals, tourists and local visitors have viewed the national costume of 2018 Ms. Universe Catriona Gray during the one month exhibit at the Museo de Legazpi which started from January 15 and ended February 14.

The national costume has been used by Gray during the pre-pageant competition on 2018 at the Pattay Thailand.

“We displayed the costume of Catriona Gray because she is a Bicolana from Oas Albay — that put the Bicol region in the map in the world of pageantry; second, we are part of that national costume because at the back of the gown we can see the Cagsawa Ruins and the Mayon Volcano, that’s how important this national costume is,” Darlito Perez City Museum curator said in an interview.

Perez noted that the national costume displayed at the Museo de Legazpi has gave honor to Gray who brought pride to the entire region.

Perez said the exhibit showcased not only the costume but also the importance of Filipino culture and heritage as, he noted the design of it was based on the cultural heritage of the country.

The costume has a bodysuit patterned with tattoos of pre- Hispanic Filipino Visayan warriors recorded in the 16th century boxer Codex. It featured T’boli accessories that included brass belt as well as Mindanaoan textile patterns and Pampanga lantern with a mural of the Philippine history at the back however, at the center of the lantern’s mural are the Mt. Mayon and Cagsawa Ruins.

He said that Museo de Legazpi was the first to exhibit the national costume of Ms.Gray and the gown will be brought soon to the National Museum in Manila.
