CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The alleged gang leader who shot dead last Monday a police officer manning the checkpoint in Misamis Oriental was killed on Friday morning.
Misamis Oriental Police chief LtCol. Robert Roy Bahian said the fourth of five suspects known only as “Bulaw” was cornered in the village of Tabo, Libertad town.
Two suspects who were earlier arrested pointed to Bulaw as their leader who shot and killed SSg. Ronald Caapuyan, 41.
Police said Bulaw resisted arrest, prompting the law enforcers to fire at him. Recovered were a hand grenade, amulets and two mobile phones.
The alleged gang leader sustained multiple gunshot wounds, killing him instantly.
Bahian said investigators were trying to determine the true identity of Bulaw who carried with him several identification cards.
Police were in pursuit of the remaining suspect believed to be still in the vicinity of Libertad.
“With the help of the civilians, the remaining fugitive will fall anytime,” Bahian said.
Civilians tipped off the operatives on the presence of the suspect whose picture was earlier circulated and distributed to Libertad residents and its outlying villages.
The first suspect, identified as Jepone Fabrigas Tinamisan, was killed together with Caapuyan during the encounter. Two companions of Bulaw, a certain Vic Abelana of Tangud City and Richardson Perez, 31, were earlier captured. The fifth suspect, a certain “Junjun,” remains at large.
The Monday shooting ensued when the suspects, allegedly on their way to commit robbery on board a Mitsubishi Mirage driven by Tinamisan, were trying to elude the checkpoint by firing at the police.
