THE Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) approved the following homegrown standards developed by the BPS Technical Committee on Paper, board and pulp (BPS/TC 21):
PNS 221:2019 Paper, board and pulp specifications indicate the requirements for machine-finish uncoated book paper. Book paper is an uncoated parchment used in the printing of novels, magazines, pamphlets, folders and brochures. During the development of PNS 221:2019, the BPS/TC 21 conducted a developmental test with samples of uncoated book paper. These were tested by the Forest Products Research and Development Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FPRDI-DoST) using the current test procedures. The test results were the basis for updating the specifications.
PNS 222:2019 Paper, board and pulps specifications indicate requirements for multipurpose copy paper, popularly used at home, in school and at the workplace for copier and fax machines, laser printers and ink-jet printers as well as offset and other forms of printing. Representative samples of copy paper were also tested by the FPRDI-DoST to classify multipurpose copy paper based.
The above standards will promote common understanding among stakeholders in the paper and board industry and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
PNS 221:2019 and PNS 222:2019 are available for purchase at the Data Cente of the DTI-BPS, located at the DTI Main Office, 3/F Trade and Industry Building, 361 Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.
