The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIOBC), the province’s police watchdog, is probing the death of a woman whose body was found with her burnt-out vehicle in Lions Bay. Her death came one day after she had been arrested by North Vancouver RCMP.
The woman, who hasn’t been identified, was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 9 for allegedly uttering threats against a person known to her. The Mounties say she was brought to the North Van RCMP detachment, where she was processed and released pending a future court date.
Her body was discovered the next morning by Squamish Mounties who responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Sunset Drive in Lions Bay.
The IIOBC, which investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, has been called in to determine whether police actions or inactions contributed to the woman’s death.
