It can be hard to figure out what to wear (and buy) in February: on the one hand, you’re hopeful — or confident — that the warmer weather is going to come soon; on the other, you’re still reaching for your coziest pieces on these oh-so-cold mornings.

When it comes to footwear, though, a pair of boots is a safe bet for a little while longer. Not only will they look great with your spring wardrobe, some would even argue that they’re now a style staple all year round.

Rebecca Tay presents five pairs of trans-seasonal boots you’ll want to wear now — and well into the future.

Kids these days are rocking Doc Martens, so if you’re into the tough-chic look, it’s definitely time to pull yours out of storage again. If you like the idea but they’re just a bit too chunky, this leather pair is a much softer version thanks to their lighter hue, suede upper, and slightly streamlined silhouette. Team with jeans and dresses well into spring.

Sustainable L.A.-based brand Reformation launched shoes and boots last fall with a tightly edited collection of styles. We’re loving this Natalia pair of laced, heeled boots and can picture wearing them with a work outfit or with jeans on the weekend. As with everything at Reformation, they’re also created with the earth in mind. These are made from 100 per cent chrome-free, vegetable tanned leather, which skips the heavily polluting, carcinogenic chrome tanning process that 90 per cent of the world’s leather goes through.

The cowboy boot trend has been trickling into fashion for the past few seasons, worn by the trend-forward industry insiders and early adopters. This Eddie boot by See by Chloé is an excellent way to dip a toe into the look: its Western heel and ankle straps are relatively subtle, and the clean, cream hue feels contemporary and cool, not kitsch.

Gravity Pope, gravitypope.com | $585

If you’re a fan of using your shoes to add a bit of extra personality to your look and don’t love basic black, brown or grey, you’ll like these Aurellane snake-print boots. Vegan-friendly, with a thin (but still walkable) 3.75 inch heel, wear them with cropped jeans or a satin midi skirt for an instant dose of cool.

BLUE, BA DA BEE

There’s so much choice these days when it comes to ankle boots. Case in point: this Lunna style. Vegan? Check. Comfortable? Check. Great with casual outfits and nights out? Check. Extra points for their unique blue hue and trans-seasonal appeal — we can definitely see ourselves wearing these all year round.
