A woman was killed and six others were hurt after a vehicle plowed through a storefront in Manila on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Marides Suing-Co, 54, who died on the spot when an SUV backed up at Evangelista St., Sta.Cruz, according to the Manila Police District (MPD).

According to P/Lt.Col. Reynaldo Magdaluyo, the six injured were rushed to the Metropolitan Hospital and Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, but their condition was not yet known.

The body of the deceased victim was immediately brought to a funeral home after Scene of the Crime Operatives have investigated the area.

The still unidentified suspect told the authorities that the Mitsubishi Montero Sport suddenly accelerated in reverse as he turned the ignition on.

Magdaluyo said that there were reported cases where the SUV would undergo a “sudden unintended acceleration,” and such may be the case for this incident, but authorities said there was still possibility of it being a human error.

The unnamed suspect is now under the custody of MPD-Police Station 3. JOHN ERIC MENDOZA
