One person was injured in a house fire on Cambie Street in Vancouver Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out around 3:20 p.m. at a duplex in the 5300-block of Cambie Street.

“We arrived to heavy smoke and flames,” said Jonathan Gormick, Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services public information officer. “All the occupants were out of the house but one suffered injuries. They were treated at the scene and later taken to hospital.”

The status of the injured resident was not released.

Cambie Street was closed to both directions from 41 Avenue to 33 Avenue for more than two hours as firefighters worked to knock down the blaze.

“Our hose lines were stretched across the lanes, so for the community’s safety and the safety of our staff, we had to close the street,” Gormick said.

Gormick says the cause of fire, which appeared to start on the main floor of one of the two living units, remains under investigation.
