Environment Canada is forecasting the possibility of up to 20 centimetres of wet snow across Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley on Tuesday.
In a special weather statement issued Monday, the weather agency said a front coming down the B.C. coast will combine with a cool air mass to create favourable conditions for low-elevation snow beginning Tuesday and lasting until Wednesday morning in some areas.
The weather statement applies to the Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley region stretching from West Vancouver to Hope, and from the North Shore to Delta.
While snowfall amounts will vary across the region, residents should prepare for anything from 5 to 20 centimetres, depending on their proximity to water and their elevation.
The highest amounts will be over Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, where snow will begin Tuesday during the daytime and last until possibly Wednesday morning. Vancouver Island will also see snow but warm air is expected to turn the snow to rain by Tuesday afternoon.
By Wednesday afternoon, snow is expected to turn to rain across most of the region.
