It was the first weekend with Uber and Lyft in operation across the Metro Vancouver area.
While many cheered the long-awaited arrival of ride hailing, others remained critical including Mayor Doug McCallum who dug in his heels. City of Surrey bylaw officers were out on Sunday, allegedly hiring Uber drivers and then issuing a warning notice when the driver arrived.
In other parts of Metro Vancouver, eager would-be Uber and Lyft riders were left waiting as demand appeared to exceed supply, leaving riders waiting up to 15 minutes for a pick-up.
