DFA to Pinoys in China: Take precautions vs deadly virus

THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) advised Filipinos in China, especially in Wuhan, to take necessary precautions against the deadly novel coronavirus.

The DFA, through its Embassy and Consulates General in China, is closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak in China and urged Filipinos to follow the advice of local health authorities on how prevent contracting the disease.

The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai reported that it is in touch with around 150 Filipinos in Wuhan, the epicenter of the disease.

“As the city is on lockdown, the Consulate has requested Filipino community leaders to provide them assistance, especially to tourists or those on short-time visit,” the DFA said.

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong called on Filipinos in the territory to cooperate with authorities.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola will convene an emergency meeting on Monday, January 27 to discuss strategies to properly respond to the coronavirus outbreak.

The DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (OUMWA) is also coordinating with health authorities and experts on how to best protect overseas Filipinos from the virus. Bernadette E. Tamayo
