VICTORIA – Premier John Horgan promoted Burnaby-Deer Lake MLA Anne Kang to become his new Citizens’ Services Minister on Wednesday, in a small cabinet shuffle that did not change the government’s power positions.

Kang, a former Burnaby city councillor, replaces Jinny Sims, who had been the Citizens’ Services minister until she resigned in October after it was announced she was under police investigation. A special prosecutor continues to oversee her case.

The shuffle also saw Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources Minister Michelle Mungall and Jobs, Tourism and Trade Minister Bruce Ralston swap jobs, with Mungall taking the helm of a retitled Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness portfolio with a mandate to promote B.C.’s tech sector and grow the economy. Ralston, meanwhile, will take up responsibility for encouraging both the LNG Canada project and also reconciling the government’s CleanBC climate plan with natural resource growth.
