A 28-year-old man has died from injuries suffered during a shooting at a Burnaby gas station early Sunday evening.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team say the man, who has been identified as Julian Johnson, was found suffering from gunshot wounds at the Chevron gas station at 4487 Canada Way around 6:30 p.m..
He later died in hospital.
IHIT says Johnson was known to police and his homicide is believed to be linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
“This was a brazen shooting in a public place and we are relieved no one else was hurt,” said IHIT spokesman Sgt. Frank Jang. “Significant progress is being made in these early stages. Our investigators are pursuing several leads and we need everyone with information to contact us so we can maintain the momentum on this fast-moving investigation.”
A black Nissan Rogue, identified as a suspect vehicle, was spotted fleeing the gas station and last seen travelling eastbound on Highway 1.
Police believe the same vehicle was later torched and left in a rural area of Langley near 206A Street and 73B Avenue.
IHIT is asking for dashcam video from anyone who was travelling Sunday along Highway 1 between 6:30 and 7 p.m. and in the area of 206A Street and 73B Avenue in Langley between 9:15 and 10 p.m.
