Five hikers who were stranded overnight on Coquitlam’s Eagle Mountain have been brought back down to safety.

Around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Coquitlam RCMP received a call from a group of five adults who had started hiking and snowshoeing on Eagle Mountain Saturday morning but had become lost and were unable to navigate back to their vehicle.

RCMP then alerted Coquitlam Search and Rescue, who determined the avalanche risk was high and that search teams could experience difficulty in reaching the group. As a result, the group of three women and two men, all in their 20s, were told to prepare for a night on the mountain.

Police and search crews, however, were able to maintain contact with the group throughout the night and said they were “in good spirits and uninjured.”

Around 1 a.m., a search team was able to reach the group of five and provided them with dry clothes, food, water and stoves for the night. Shortly after 6:30 a.m. Sunday, the five hikers were walked out unharmed by search teams.
