Prince George RCMP believe a shooting on Tuesday night is linked to the city’s drug trade.

In a prepared statement, Cpl. Craig Douglass said police were called to a suburban area south of downtown Prince George at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Front-line members attended and located multiple spent bullet casings on the road, but no victims,” Douglass said. “Neighbourhood inquiries were made and several other persons reported hearing gun shots. Two dark vehicles were observed fleeing the area following the shooting.”

At 8:15 p.m. police were contacted by a local hospital saying a man had just come to the emergency room with a single gunshot wound. Shortly after, police learned a vehicle had been torched on Moyie Street, a few blocks from the shooting.

“Investigators believe that the vehicle was deliberately set on fire and is associated to the shooting,” Douglass said. “Investigators believe this incident was targeted and directly associated to the drug trade. Investigators have no reason to believe the public is at risk.”
