Duterte to DMCI: Compensate tenants of collapsed Davao condo or lose business

MANILA, Philippines—President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to block property developer DMCI Holdings, Inc. from constructing more buildings if it fails to settle its obligation with the tenants of one of its condominiums in Davao City that collapsed during an earthquake last october.

“You know if you do not come to terms with the people that you have prejudiced, I will not allow you to even construct a building, not even a post,” Duterte said in an interview over ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol.

The President also recalled that businessman Isidro Consunji, chair of the real estate, “arrogantly” deal with the tenants during their meeting regarding the damaged condominium.

“Do not do that. You will not only lose you funds but your business. Believe me. I will question everything. I will order the audit of all the buildings and all the violations that you have committed,” Duterte stressed.

Parts of Ecoland 4000, a DMCI-owned condominium in Davao City, collapsed after a 6.5 earthquake.
