VANCOUVER, B.C.: Thursday, Jan. 9. A special weather statement is in effect for possible snow for Metro Vancouver Thursday night and Friday. Environment and Climate Change Canada says with temperatures hovering near the freezing mark, a mix of rain or snow is forecast across the region. The agency says snowfall amounts will vary depending on elevation, but some areas could see more than five centimetres of snow by Friday morning. As for the daytime forecast Thursday, the agency says Metro Vancouver can expect a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 3 C. Overnight expect snow turning to rain and a low of around 1 C. On Friday, the agency is predicting snow in the morning, turning to rain later on, with wind, and a high of 4 C.
The agency says more snow is possible this weekend as cool air from the Gulf of Alaska moves ashore. Saturday, however, looks like a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 4 C and an overnight low of 1 C with a chance of showers or snow flurries. Then expect periods of snow or rain on Sunday, with a high of 4 C and an overnight low of – 2 C.
Early next week, the agency says “very cold arctic air” from the B.C. Interior will cause temperatures to plunge below freezing. On Monday, it looks like a mix of sun and cloud with a high of – 1 C, with a chance of snow flurries, and an overnight low of – 9 C. Tuesday looks the same, albeit a little drier, with an overnight low of – 7 C.
