A wind warning is in effect for Metro Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast, the Gulf Islands, and for much of Vancouver Island.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says a strong Pacific storm will bring significant wind to the South Coast Friday night and Saturday morning.

Southeast winds will gradually strengthen throughout Friday, particularly for areas near Haro Strait and the Strait of Georgia.

Late in the evening, the agency says wind gusts could reach 70 km/h in some parts of the region.

Winds should ease by Saturday afternoon.

The agency warns that loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage, and that tree branches may break.

In Metro Vancouver, a rainfall warning is also in effect.
