THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the number coding scheme for public and private vehicles starting today, Monday.
To accommodate more passengers this holiday season, the MMDA suspended the number coding for all provincial buses today, December 24, 26 27, 31, 2019 and January 3, 2020.
For private vehicles, the MMDA also lifted the number coding scheme today, December 24, 25, 30, 31, and January 1, 2020.
Number coding on December 25 and January 1, 2020 is automatically lifted as they are regular holidays.
“In view of this, all enforcement units are restricted from apprehending all provincial buses [for number coding] violation only on the said dates,” said MMDA Assistant General Manager Roberto Almadin in a letter dated December 16.
The number coding scheme, also known as the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) is implemented to reduce the volume of vehicles plying in Metro Manila’s major roads.
Vehicles are banned based on the last digit of their vehicle license plates.
