The venue was different, but fans did not seem to mind.
Hundreds lined the route of the Parade of Stars, the kick-off event for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), in Taguig City on Sunday to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars who were riding the floats of the eight entries in the filmfest.
It was the first time in the 45 years of the film festival that the parade was held at the Bonifacio Global City.
It started at Lakeshore Hall and ended at McKinley West Open Ground.
As expected, the floats of “Mindanao” starring Judy Ann Santos, “The Mall, The Merrier” starring Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis and “3Pol Trobol: Huli Ka Balbon,” starring Coco Martin, Jennylyn Mercado and Ai-Ai delas Alas drew the loudest cheers from the spectators.
“Sunod,” the only horror film in this year’s edition starring Carmina Villarruel and “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity” starring Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza also drew shrieks and shouts from the crowd, as well as the remake of the Korean movie “Miracle in Cell No. 7” starring Aga Muhlach and Bela Padilla.
Other entries are “Write About Love,” starring Yeng Constantino and Rocco Nacino, and “Culion,” starring Iza Calzado, Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Meryll Soriano.
Last year, the festival grossed P1.06 billion, the biggest so far in its history. Organizers led by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority are hoping the earnings this year will top last year’s.
MMFF spokesman Noel Ferrer also warned the public about people selling passes through social media.
He informed The Manila Times that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group caught a woman who was selling fake MMFF passes.
“Those who bought and will be caught using these fake passes may be held criminally liable too,” he said.
All entries will simultaneously open nationwide on December 25. the festival will run until January 8.
Awards Night will be on December 27.
