SEVENTEEN persons, including soldiers, were wounded in separate explosions in Mindanao on Sunday, the military said.
Twelve persons were injured in the blast along Sinsuat Avenue in Cotabato City, 50 meters away from the Notre Dame Cathedral, at about 6 p.m., said Maj. Arvin Encinas, spokesman for the military’s Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom).

In a report to Manila-based reporters, Encinas said three unidentified suspects aboard a motorcycle tossed the explosive at troops under the Philippine Army’s 5th Special Forces Battalion, who were on-duty at the time.
Of the 12 injured, eight were soldiers, said Encinas.
“The troops responded by firing at the suspects who sped away,” Encinas said.
Encinas said another explosion occurred in Limbungan, North Cotabato, injuring five persons.
A third explosion in Pedro Colina Hills in Cotabato City occurred also on Sunday.
