Thunder evacuated from OKC mall after shooting
Thunder players were among those evacuated from an Oklahoma City mall when an isolated shooting took place on Thursday.
The players were attending a movie at the Penn Square Mall when a man was shot at the Foot Locker at the shopping complex.
“Thunder security was made aware immediately. The team was never in danger and was safe during the entirety of the event,” the Thunder said in a statement.
After the shooting, police searched the mall for the suspect and cleared out shoppers who had taken cover.
“When the shooting started, there were a bunch of people hid in closets, hid in back rooms, locked the stores,” Sgt. Kris Gellenbeck said. “So they’re having to go store to store to clear the civilians out and look for the suspect.”
Capt. Larry Withrow said video footage was found showing the suspect leaving the mall just after the fight.
Police said the victim was at a hospital in critical but stable condition after being shot in the chest.
