Central Saanich police have arrested a male teacher from a Montessori Educare Daycare after a preliminary investigation into his conduct with children in his care.

Police are investigating information received late last week related to a male teacher at the daycare, located at 7925 East Saanich Rd. in Saanichton.

Officers worked on the case throughout the weekend, Central Saanich Police Chief Les Sylven said in a news release.

A search warrant was executed at the facility Monday morning, and a suspect was arrested, Sylven said.

“The investigation is in relation to his conduct with children in his care,” Sylven said. “We have been in contact with all relevant community partners, including [Island Health] community care licensing, and most importantly, we are working to support the families involved.”

Police are asking parents and friends to refrain from asking children any questions about their interactions with the male teacher.

Officers trained in child interviewing will be in contact with families and children in the days ahead, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information directly related to this investigation contact Sgt. Paul Brailey directly at 250-652-4441 ext. 3030.
