MANILA Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso vowed he would not stop implementing reforms to rebuild Manila during the Christmas celebration of the Bulong Pulungan media forum at Hotel Sofitel on December 3.
Instead of “Mayor Domagoso,” he is now called Yorme— street slang for the word mayor, with the syllables reversed, popularized by the Mayor himself who in his speeches and ordinary conversations talks street-speak in the slums of Tondo where he grew up.
Dante Francis ‘Klink’ Ang 2nd The Manila Times president and chief executive president, graced the Bulong Christmas.
Tess Tumangan, charter president of Rotary Club of Manila 101, and Inner Wheel Circle ladies also graced the occasion.
Earlier, during his bid for the mayoralty, Yorme met with the Bulong Pulungan media forum core members at the Diamond Hotel, Manila on March 12, 2019, to present his credentials.
At the Bulong forum, he regaled the core members with his firsthand experience in garbage collection which should make history Manila’s image as a smelly garbage dump.
Today, Yorme is relentlessly implementing such plans in what he calls his 10-year Infrastructure Program for Manila which includes tourism, health care, traffic, and jobs, tourism, and restoring the city’s cultural heritage.
As in any change effort, Yorme has not been spared of opposition to his reforms.
At the recent Bulong Pulungan at Hotel Sofitel, he bravely declared, “I will not stop!”
Yorme said he is meeting with concerned agencies under the Department of Tourism to revive Manila’s cultural heritage.
At the Bulong forum, he announced updates on his efforts to rehabilitate the Metropolitan Theatre, one of the country’s oldest theatres.
Yorme said Manila is buying back the Met, now 88 years old, to be able to rehabilitate it.
For his early remarkable accomplishments, Bulong Pulungan presented Yorme its 2019 Exemplar Award which names Mayor Isko Moreno as Miracle Worker of Manila.”
As Christmas gift to Yorme, Bulong Pulungan core group members gave him a framed picture of the Mayor during his meeting with the Bulong core members on March 12, 2019, taken by Edmundo Santiago.
As his Christmas gift to Bulong, Yorme kindly signed replicas of his hat which Bulong auctioned off during the party to raise funds for Bulong’s Christmas beneficiary, the Mother Teresa Spinelli House of Treasures in Tagaytay City, a facility for abandoned and neglected children run by the Augustinian Sisters Servants of Jesus and Mary.
