2 dead, 16 injured in Borongan ambush

A COP and a civilian were killed and 16 were wounded in an ambush allegedly orchestrated by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Borongan, Eastern Samar, police reported on Saturday.
Based on the report of Police Regional Office 8 sent to Camp Crame, the victims were identified as Pat. Mark Jerome Sugalan Rama and Agripena Avilla Traboco, 69.
Police reported that the ambush transpired at Barangay Libuton at 3 p.m.
Of the injured, six were policemen identified as Pat. Angelito Loterte, Pat Rick Esponilla Capoquian Jr., Pat. Rey Godes Sobrepenia and Pat. Kevin Jatulan Operario.
Pat. Christian Godino and Pat. Michael Frank Pajanustan were unharmed, police added.
The rest of the injured were civilians: Jacob Chicano, 35; Marrian Jebulan Esposa, 20; Carlito Baldos Esposa, 65; Mark Balayanto Adona Cantos, 18; Jenalyn Boco Traboco, 1; Florence Avilla Traboco, 39; Anthony Docena Balayanto, 50; Mary Grace Rapada, Ma. Lilisania Obina, 34; and Hector Lemer Obina, 35; John Rey Boco Traboco, 6; and Francis Vie Radan, 13.
In its initial investigation, PNP personnel were on board a marked vehicle and were travelling to the Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office (ESPPO) when a loud explosion occurred followed by a burst of gunfire from the suspects. DARWIN PESCO
