It’s not the type of place where you want to do your Christmas shopping.
Vancouver police announced Wednesday they had raided a “retail” store selling stolen property from a home on the city’s east side.
On Nov. 27, Vancouver police searched the house near Victoria Drive and East 49th Avenue, after being tipped off that there were people inside the home who were selling stolen property.
Police allege they found rooms full of stolen clothing and alcohol, set up on racks and tables like a functional store. Police say the property was available for purchase by potential customers. The value of all the items was about $130,000.
“This is a large quantity of stolen items, and we are working with several retailers to return their property,” said Sgt. Aaron Roed. “Unfortunately, retail theft happens all over the city.”
Two Vancouver residents were arrested in connection with the seizure and have been released as police continue to investigate.
Since the start of 2019, Vancouver police have investigated about 2,000 shoplifting incidents in the city.
Just a day earlier, police had announced three individuals were arrested in two separate shoplifting incidents involving armed people, one at a B.C. Liquor Store and the other at a Kitsilano Lululemon shop.
Anyone with information stolen property or shoplifting incidents is asked to contact Vancouver police.
