Mounties in Richmond are looking for witnesses to a hit and run on a Richmond highway that killed a man from the Fraser Valley on Saturday.

RCMP officers were called out to Highway 99, about 100 metres north of the Steveston Highway overpass, at about 6:30 a.m.

They had received multiple calls about a body in the southbound left lane of Highway 99. At the time, RCMP called it a “police incident” because they were not sure how he died.

However on Wednesday, RCMP issued a statement saying investigators now believe the man was struck by a vehicle, and called it a possible case of hit and run.

RCMP say those who called police have been interviewed and the area has been canvassed for any possible video surveillance.

The victim has been identified as a man in his early 60s from the Fraser Valley.

Police believe the collision happened between 1:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., and that he was struck by a larger vehicle, possibly a commercial truck.

Investigators say the driver may have heard or felt something unusual and kept driving without realizing a person had come into contact with the vehicle.

They are appealing to the driver to come forward and speak with police.

Anyone with information about this collision, including any dash camera video is asked to call Lower Mainland District Traffic Services at 604-526-9744 and quote file 2019-3482.
