Vancouver police are investigating early morning stabbings in Yaletown on Sunday that sent four men to hospital, leaving one of them in serious condition.
Emergency services were called just before 2:30 a.m. about a large group of men fighting near Mainland and Helmcken streets – in the fashionable dining district.
“Four men were suffering from stab wounds and sent to hospital, where one remains in serious condition,” Vancouver Police Department Const. Tania Visintin said in a news release. “This investigation is ongoing.”
Postmedia has learned that some of those involved are associated to the Brothers Keepers gang and the United Nations gang – both of which have been locked in a bloody war across the Lower Mainland for more than two years.
One of the BK stabbing victims was on probation after pleading guilty to assault last June for his role in a December 2017 attack in the 800-block of Homer Street.
Last June, Sumdish Gill admitted he was involved in the attack on Jitesh Vagh, though not the person who stabbed Vagh 18 times.
“Mr. Gill participated in the group attack by chasing Mr. Vagh and punching and kicking him to the ground,” Crown Adrienne Smith said in Vancouver Provincial Court at the time.
Visintin said anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
