Ryan Reynolds brings back infamous 'Peloton wife' for cheeky new gin ad

The infamous Peloton ad already had a number of local connections before Vancouver actor Ryan Reynolds got involved.
The commercial, in which a woman receives a Peloton smart bike for Christmas, was filmed in Vancouver, and the much-maligned Peloton husband, pilloried on social media as a symbol of the patriarchy, was played by Vancouver gym teacher Sean Hunter.
Hunter has made the rounds since the commercial’s poor reception, sitting for interviews with several local and national outlets and doing his best to defend his character. But his co-star, the Los Angeles-based actress who plays the Peloton wife, has laid low since the ad went viral for all the wrong reasons.
Until Friday, that is, when she appeared in another commercial, this one for Aviation American Gin, the Portland-made spirit in which Ryan Reynolds acquired an ownership interest last year.

The gin ad never references the Peloton ad directly, apart from a cheeky Reynolds tweet in which he shared the new ad and quipped, “exercise bike not included.” But it’s easy to imagine that this is not just the same actress, but the same character, drowning her sorrows in London-style gin after a troublesome holiday gift from her partner.
“This gin is really smooth,” she says blankly, before morosely downing her drink in a gulp.
“You look great, by the way,” a friend tells her.
The comedy — it’s almost as dry as the gin.
