Cancer patient bags P50-M lotto prize

A 65-year-old cancer patient won the P50 million lotto jackpot prize for 6/49 Superlotto, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said on Wednesday.

PCSO General Manager Royina Marzan-Garma said that the winner from Cavite has a nasopharyngeal cancer.

Nasopharyngeal cancer is a rare form of head and neck cancer that starts to develop behind the nose, specifically in the upper part of the throat, according to WebMD.

Common symptoms of such cancer type are lump in neck, recurring of ear infection, headache, difficulty of opening mouth, among others, the website added.

Hindi niya akalain na mananalo at magkukubra sya ng cheke ng panalo sa PCSO [He never thought he would win the prize from the PCSO],” Garma told the reporters.

The old woman got the winning combination of 5-38-09-17-10-15.

Garma said that the winner got assistance from the PCSO for her chemotherapy.

The winner had been playing lotto for more than 30 years and finally got the winning combination. She bought the ticket at a lotto outlet in Baclaran, Manila, Garma said.

The winner will also celebrate her birthday next week.

Moreover, Garma said that the old woman planned to use her money for her medication and to support her children. DARWIN PESCO
