MUNTINLUPA City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi on Tuesday ordered a pre-emptive evacuation of residents living near Laguna Lake in Muntinlupa and other flood-prone areas in anticipation of Typhoon “Tisoy.”
In a statement, the city government said that at least 704 families or 2,454 individuals were evacuated as the city braced for strong winds and torrential rains.
To ensure the safety of residents, especially those living in hazard-prone areas, Muntinlupa installed evacuation centers with modular tents and mobilized barangay disaster risk response teams.
Evacuees are currently staying in barangay halls, public schools, and covered courts with modular tents.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) placed Metro Manila under Signal No. 2.
Typhoon Tisoy is forecast to cross Metro Manila later in the day and will bring strong winds and heavy rain up to Wednesday, the state weather bureau said. JAN ARCILLA
