A 19-year-old man faces assault charges after a violent attack on an 85-year-old man Sunday in Abbotsford.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the area of 33555 South Fraser Way.
Abbotsford police patrol officers responded to a report of a young man seen hitting and robbing an elderly man. The victim suffered serious injuries, including broken teeth and cuts to his face.
Witnesses to the assault chased the attacker as he fled.
Police say the young man ran into traffic on South Fraser Way and was struck by a passing vehicle but continued to flee. He was later arrested after police found him hiding in the bushes along a ravine north of Trinity Street in Downtown Abbotsford, about half-a-kilometre away from where the assault occurred. He didn’t suffer serious injuries.
Brandon William Janveaux of Chilliwack has been charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. He remains in custody and is due to appear in Abbotsford court Wednesday.
