FOUR energy projects, including those of companies led by the Lopez and Aboitiz groups, have been recognized as significant, the Department of Energy (DoE) said.
According to its website, the Energy department said its Energy Investment Coordinating Council issued the certificate of energy project of national significance (CEPNS) for commercial phase to Lopez-led Energy Development Corp.’s Mahanagdong Geothermal Brine Optimization Plant, AboitizPower Corp. unit Therma Marine Inc.’s TMI Hybrid DBS (BESS) project, Galoc Production Co.’s Galoc Field Area and Development project in northwest Palawan province, and Philippine Geothermal Production Co. Inc.’s Mt. Malinao Geothermal Project.
The issuance of CEPNS is in line with Executive Order 30 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in June 2017. It aims to streamline the regulatory procedures and requirements relevant to the development of energy investments in the country.
It gives project proponents presumptive prior approval and 30-day facilitation from all concerned government agencies. An application is deemed approved if not acted upon within five days after the 30 days lapse.
As of end-August, the council has received 268 applications for EPNS. Of that total, 297 were accepted and 71 were rejected.
