THE incoming president of the Filipino-Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Inc.
(FCGCCI) pledged to develop small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as part of his advocacy during an event that saw the group’s chairman emeritus stress it would remain the government’s ally in growing the economy.

At his organization’s 115th anniversary celebration and 72nd induction rites in Parañaque City on Monday, incoming FCGCCI chief Ramon Chuaying said he would like “to cultivate small and medium-sized entrepreneurs.”

“In my coming term, I hope to create better relationship and ties with government agencies for the Filipino-Chinese community [and] expand our educational and humanitarian effort,” he added.

According to Chuaying, great efforts are expected from every member of the chamber to push for the realization of their agenda.

“In order to achieve such endeavors, we must continue to break boundaries by expanding our connection and collaboration with more organizations,” he said, urging FCGCCI members to work “hand-in-hand” with him.

“With this new chapter ahead, I hope that we will continuously strive not [only] to improve existing projects, but also to innovate and implement newer initiatives to become stronger as a community,” Chuaying added.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, who graced the event, acknowledged the contributions of the Filipino-Chinese business community, noting that the chamber had participated in the country’s economic development through education, livelihood and job opportunities.

He said these helped boost the economy, which grew by 6.2 percent in the third quarter of 2019 from 6.0 percent year-on-year, driven by increased government spending and consumption.

The Trade chief vowed that more reforms would be enjoyed by the business sector as the government sought to amend the public service and retail trade laws, among others, to allow more foreign investors.

For his part, FCGCCI Chairman Emeritus and inducting officer James Dy said his organization would remain an ally of the government to further economic growth.

“We remain steadfast in servicing the nation, the society and every Filipino,” he said.
