Warm, moist tropical air flowing into B.C. along an atmospheric river was responsible for more than a dozen daily high temperature records being set in the province on Sunday.
In Victoria, a high of 15.9 C was recorded at the airport, breaking the record of 15.6 set in 1932, meanwhile Merritt reached an unseasonable 15.2 C on Sunday, breaking the old mark of 14.2 that was also set in 1932.
Other B.C. communities reaching record high temperatures on Sunday included Bella Bella (12.9), Bella Coola (12.6), Burns Lake (10.6), Campbell River (12), Chetwynd (12.6), Clinton (11), Gibsons (14), Mackenzie (8.5), Prince George (11.9), Puntzi Mountain (11.3), Sechelt (14), Smithers (11.7), Terrace (10.6) and Williams Lake (12.4).
It may have been warm but it was also very wet, as the atmospheric river — described as a huge plume of subtropical moisture — also brought buckets of rain to much of B.C.
