Mounties in Houston have made an arrest in connection with a homicide that occurred in B.C.’s Northern Interior last week.

William Griffin was arrested without incident on Friday in the city of Terrace, Houston RCMP said in a news release Saturday.

He has been charged with second degree murder in relation to the Nov. 10 death of Elija Dumont.

Dumont, a 23-year-old Houston resident, was found dead last Sunday afternoon when police responded to reported shooting in the 2100 Block of Cataline Court.

Homicide investigators with the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit first identified a suspect on Friday, immediately appealing to the public for help locating the man they believed to be Dumont’s killer. Griffin was arrested later the same day.

People believe Dumont and Griffin knew each other, and that this was an isolated incident.

Griffin remains in police custody and will appear in court in Smithers next Tuesday.

The investigation is ongoing.
