‘Drunk’ cop lands in jail for indiscriminate firing in Pasig bar

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman allegedly intoxicated by alcohol was arrested in a bar after he allegedly fired his gun indiscriminately in Pasig City.

Police on Friday identified the suspect as Staff Sgt. PercilIto Club, who was arrested at about 5:20 a.m. on Thursday along J. Vargas Avenue in Barangay Ugong.

According to police, personnel of the Pasig City Police Community Precinct 10 were conducting establishment visitation at the bar when they suddenly heard a gunshot at the entrance.

When the policemen went to check, they saw a man holding a firearm.

Police said they noticed that the man, who later introduced himself as a police officer, was “very drunk.”

Authorities then arrested Club as they recovered from him a 9mm pistol issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and its magazine with 14 bullets.

The suspect was subjected to paraffin examination and blood alcohol determination while the recovered pieces of evidence were submitted for ballistic examination.

Police said the suspect is now detained at the Pasig City Police Station as cases for alarm and scandal and illegal discharge of firearm are being prepared against him.

The PNP-Internal Affairs Service will also conduct an investigation for a separate administrative case.
