DNA tests confirm suicide bombers in Sulu mother and son — military

THE two suicide bombers who died in separate incidents recently were mother and son based on DNA test results, the military said.
In a statement released late Wednesday, the Joint Task Force Sulu said that according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) crime laboratory in Davao, there was a “99.9 percent match” between the DNA samples taken from the alleged young suicide bomber identified only as “Abduramil” or “Yousoph” and Reda Mohammad Mahmud, who was allegedly behind the attack at an Army detachment in Indanan, Sulu in September.
Abduramil was among the three suspected suicide bombers who died during an encounter in November 5.
The DNA test also revealed that another suspected foreign suicide bomber who died in the November 5 encounter was Abudramil’s stepfather who was identified as Baker Al Seddik Barakat alias Abduracman.
“She (Reda) together with Abduracman and her son Abduramil traveled to Mindanao via backdoor channel to seek refuge with the ASG (Abu Sayyaf Group) in Sulu with the help of ISIS connections in Southeast Asia,” Col. Pablo Labra, chief of the Sulu provincial police office, said in a statement.
Labra also said that Mahmud was involved in the deadly bombings of churches in Egypt in 2017, which killed and wounded dozens of people.
Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinulan Jr., Sulu task force commander, said the DNA results showed the IS connections of in the suicide bombing incidents in the province. DEMPSEY REYES
