A United Airlines flight out of Vancouver aborted takeoff Friday afternoon due to a possible bird strike.
No, the birds at YVR have not unionized. Instead, one was sucked into the engine — a rare but dangerous event — and the jet was forced to make an emergency stop.
The flight, set to take off from YVR for Denver at 12:30 p.m., instead returned to the terminal. 121 passengers and five crew members deplaned. The departure has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m.
A photo shared to social media by Paul Friesen, a passenger on the flight, showed a streak of blood on one of the jet’s engines.

United has not confirmed the extent of the damage, but a spokesperson said maintenance crews were already working to restore the jet, and the airline was working to secure a new aircraft for the rescheduled flight.
No one was injured.
